The One Thing No One Tells You About Fear

Apr 16, 2025

I’m curious—have you ever looked back on a moment that once terrified you and realized it was the one of the best decisions you ever made?

April has always been a month of brave moves for me—moments when I felt the fear and took the leap anyway. Packing up my life and moving halfway across the country to Texas, not knowing exactly what was ahead. Getting on that plane to Nepal and trekking through the Himalayas, miles outside my comfort zone. Leaving the safety and familiarity of one company to step into the unknown of a new venture.

Every one of those moments was scary. Every one of them changed my life.

And that’s the thing about fear—it doesn’t always mean stop. More often than not, it’s a sign you’re on the edge of something bigger. The question is—will you let it hold you back, or will you step forward anyway?

Bob Proctor said it best:

"We come this way but once. We can either tiptoe through life and hope that we get to death without being too badly bruised, or we can live a full, complete life achieving our goals and realizing our wildest dreams."

Fear Is a Signpost, Not a Stop Sign

Experience has taught me, fear doesn’t mean stop. It means go. It’s a signal that you’re stepping outside your comfort zone—and that is where real growth happens.

Think about driving through thick fog. If you stop and wait for perfect visibility, you’ll never reach your destination. But if you trust your headlights, take it slow, and keep moving forward, the road unfolds before you, little by little.

That’s how success works. You don’t wait for the fear to disappear—you take action while it’s still there.

One of my mentors taught me a phrase I have come to live by: “This or something better.” You move toward your goal with full intention, but you don’t grip so tightly to how it must happen. Because sometimes, what’s on the other side of fear is even better than you imagined.

No One Regrets Being Brave

In The Top 5 Regrets of the Dying, Bronnie Ware shares the most common regret people have at the end of their lives:
"I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me."

Here’s the truth: no one looks back and says, I wish I had let fear hold me back longer. I wish I had played it safe.

So, what’s calling you right now? What have you been hesitating on because fear is whispering in your ear?

3 Success Tips to Move Through Fear:

  1. Acknowledge It – Recognize it, name it, and move forward anyway. Fear isn’t a red light; it’s a green light.
  2. Take the Next Right Step – Action dissolves fear. You don’t need the full plan—just take the next right step.
  3. Trust What’s Ahead – Set your intention, do the work, and then release the need for control. The best things happen when you lean in and detach from the outcome.

What if, instead of waiting for the fear to go away, you started moving with it?

Here’s to making this a month of bold action, big dreams, and stepping into what’s next. This or something better.
